Welcome to St. Katharine Drexel School in St. Cloud, Minnesota

 

My name is Mrs. Binsfeld and I am excited to be teaching second grade again this year!  This will be my 33rd year of teaching and my

fourteenth year teaching second grade.  My husband Mark and I live in St. Cloud and I have two adult children.  I feel so blessed to be a part of our SKD family and I'm looking forward to a fantastic new school year!

Second Grade News

 

***All spelling lists can be found on spellingcity.com.  The direct link is:

***Please check your child's home folder each evening and go through it          with him/her.  Also please help your child to bring it back to school              each day along with their AR book.  I provide time each day for the              students to read AR books in class.

 

***September book orders are due on Friday, September 7th.  You may also order your books online at Scholastic.com.  My activation code is:  P8MHC

 

 

 

 

***Curriculum Updates***

 

*Religion   Unit one will focus on God's gifts, God's promise and the Word of God.  We will explore the Bible as God's inspired Word and continue to learn about upcoming Sunday gospels in our Good News

magazines.

 

*AR  Please check your child's new September AR log to see the ZPD range for this month.  September points will be due Friday, September 28th.

 

*Science   We will begin our unit on plants which will include parts of a plant, plant life cycle, and what a plant needs to grow.  

 

*Math   We will be learning about number sense, place value, rounding numbers and comparing and ordering numbers. Another goal this year is to memorize addition and subtraction math facts through 18.  Please continue to practice math facts at home.    

 

*Writing   The second graders will begin the year by completing story starters and sharing them. Our first complete writing piece will focus on autumn.  We will also do an author study about Kevin Henkes and we will have many writing activities to go with his stories.  We will also add new story starters in our writing notebooks.
